Good morning guys Tony Maritatto, licensed physical therapist and today I
0:03
want to talk about the perfect push-up. Now if you remember this used to be
0:07
super popular then it kind of fell out of popularity but we still use these in
0:12
the clinic I think they've got a lot of versatility so they come in a pair I've
0:16
only got one with me right now but obviously you've got your normal
0:20
standard elevated push-up so I put my hands on get into a position I've got
0:25
one on each side and I would do a full push-up. What we use these in the clinic
0:29
for primarily is shoulder stability. So if I have somebody who's dealing with
0:33
some shoulder issues, getting into what we call a closed chain position where
0:38
they're leaning and pressing down into the perfect push-up device and then
0:43
rotating the glenohumeral head. So you've heard people talk about internal external rotation when we think about how the shoulder works it's a ball and
0:53
socket joint. This allows my clients to work on shoulder stability with compression or
1:00
approximation to reduce the potential for discomfort while increasing the potential for function And so we could do this closed chain in front of the body We could do closed chain on the side of the body
1:17
I can even do it in a shoulder extended position. Now you've seen people doing dips and exercises like that
1:24
In order for me to be able to do a dip, I need shoulder extension, internal rotation
1:30
The perfect pushup allows me to do that. I can put it up on a wall
1:34
And so in a standing position, I can work internal, external rotation on the wall
1:41
There's a potential where you could put it overhead depending on what you had above you
1:45
A squat rack typically will work well where I'll put this on the pull-up bar and I'll do internal rotation, external rotation in that position
1:55
But these things are indestructible. Like we've had this around, we've dropped stuff on it, we've dropped it itself
2:02
We've never had any of these break. The handle holds up really well
2:06
It's kind of a softer rubber, but it's a high density, so it provides grit
2:12
There is no texture to it. It's not uncomfortable on the hands. We've been really happy with these for well over a decade that we've been using them in the clinic
